The Tradition of Living in Buddhism. THUONG TOA Thich Trung Sy. THE TRADITION OF VIETNAM SETTLEMENT IN BUDDHISM An Abode is a beautiful, unique tradition of Buddhism, present in India for thousands of years. The Retreat is a good, convenient, and suitable occasion for the disciples of the Blessed One to meet each other, cultivate virtue, cultivate virtue, build brotherhood, and cultivate the spirit of Dharma fellow initiates in the spirit of peace. collective spirit, harmony, solidarity, mutual assistance, mutual affection, mutual love, and mutual respect according to the right path of Precepts, Concentration, and Tue. Originally, Seclusion was a practice and tradition common to monks and hermits of various sects and religions in ancient India. After that, An Cu was well received, selected, maintained, developed, applied, and practiced by the Buddha and his disciples from that time to the present day. An Cu is a compound word of Sino-Vietnamese sound; An's literal meaning means quiet, is quiet, is to stop…, and An's figurative meaning means concentration, being present, being present, ...; The word Cu means place, abode, a place, a Gia Lam, a center of cultivation, is now and here, etc. v … So, An Dwelling means that practitioners together are present in many different Gia Lam residences in different localities and countries in the spirit of diligence, peace, harmony, and unity to give each other. exchange, share practice experiences, and taste dharma learning, dharma talk, dharma practice, dharma bliss, etc. v … Looking at other aspects of the Buddhist history spanning nearly three thousand years, we can learn more about the reasons for the Retreat that was selected and purified by the Buddha and his disciples as follows: After the Buddha attained full enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, and after Brahma Sahampati[1] three times requested the Buddha to stay in the world to teach the Buddhadharma to sentient beings. The Buddha agreed to accept Brahma's requests, and began turning the wheel of Dharma at the Deer Park - Deer Park (Sarnath). Initially, the Buddha turned 5 brothers of the venerable A Nha Kieu Tran Nhu (Aññā Kondañña) as disciples.[2] Then, Da Sa, Da Sa's family, Da Sa's friends, etc. v ... also received the Buddha's disciples by reading up three refuges: Relying on the Buddha, taking refuge in the Dharma, and relying on the Sangha.[3] With his spiritual practice, compassion and wisdom, majesty, and prestige, the Buddha captured and taught many different types of people regardless of class, religion, skin color, and race. However, as the Buddha's disciples became more and more numerous, in the Sangha there were a few bad people, especially the group of six bhikkhus, who thought, spoke, and acting without mindfulness and awareness, they go out into the street and trample insects in spring, summer, and winter. At that time, Buddhists and non-Buddhists decried their behavior and said: “Disciples of Samana Gotama travel all over the world, trampling insects, with no time to stop. a place to practice."[4] Upon hearing this, the Buddha instructed his disciples each year to organize the Summer Retreat according to the appropriate weather and climate in different regions and countries. . Indeed, the Summer Retreat is the best opportunity for each practitioner to develop their inner self, practice Precepts, Concentration, and Wisdom, build the Sangha body, the Dharma body, and the Buddha body, and cultivate the best merit fields for the Buddhas. cultivated at home. According to the Northern Buddhist tradition, the time of the summer retreat usually takes place after the week of Buddha's birthday. Usually it consists of 3 months, starting from April 16, lasting until July 16 of the lunar calendar. According to the Southern tradition, the An Cu period also includes 3 months, starting from June 16 to September 16 of the lunar calendar. However, in Western society such as America, France, England, Germany, etc. v ..., depending on different countries, places of residence, and locality, Seclusion practitioners of various monasteries and Buddhist traditions can organize their Seclusion time accordingly. For example, when the Retreat retreat opens on the morning of April 16, Seclusion practitioners must take advantage of being present the day or before, to rest and to know where to eat, where to stay, where to sleep, etc. . v… at the place of residence where he or she participates in the Residency. At the beginning of the Retreat, when gathered at a suitable Residency, the practitioners have a pleasant meeting to organize the program and study time, such as teaching the Dharma, reciting the Precepts, chanting the Sutras, Buddhist meditation, walking meditation, sitting meditation, etc. v… In the early hours of the first day of Retreat, An Cu meditator conducts a ceremony of facing-to-animal meaning that one person faces the other and recites the words of his vows to study. let each hear, see, and know how to give further instruction, and vice versa, the other does the same. At the residence of An Cu, An Cu practitioners invited the Most Venerable Precepts Teaching Preceptor to be the lawyer to demonstrate the Settlement Ceremony. This lawyer followed the Mass to remind, teach, advise... When the lawyer proved to be chosen and invited by the Mass, the three An Cu meditators went to kneel in front of the Lawyer, one in turn. Of the three meditators, the author said, "Dear Venerable Master of Religion! Our Dharma names are Harmony, Peace, and Solidarity. Today at this Gia Lam house, we have enough good fortune to depend on the venerable virtue of the Venerable Master to practice, study, live together, and live together with the great assembly for a period of 10 days, 15 days, or 90 days... During the Retreat. and study here, as monastics, we are sorted according to the life span (lowering), the summer retreat (Vassa), and the merits of practice. Just as the law is, we receive a room, sleepwear, and a place to worship on the road with the great assembly. May the Venerable Master prove and allow us to express our sincerity! ”[5] Next, on behalf of the An Cu community, a meditator read aloud the boundaries of Gia Lam An Cu as the East direction from the Tinh Tan house; South direction from the house of practice; West is from the house of Application, and the direction of North is from the house of Practice. Once the boundaries are specified, In the process of participating in the Retreat, any meditator who has personal or Sangha's work and goes beyond the boundary of the Residency, must explain in front of the mass as follows: Namo Master Shakyamuni Buddha" Dear Most Venerable Monks and Congregation, My Dharma name is Right Mindfulness, today I have Buddhist work, go out of the boundary of Gia Lam An Cu about 1 hour, 1 session, 1 day... When the Buddha work is done, I returned to the place of residence, continued to rely on the great assembly to practice and study. I hope that the Venerable Master and the Congregation will be happy to know!”[6] During the Seclusion Course, there was a ceremony of Bodhisattvas (Uposatha)[7]; During this ceremony, a practitioner was chosen by the assembly to recite the Dharma precepts, and the rest of the practitioners listened to and reviewed the Dharma precepts they had received. At the end of the An Cu course, there was a ceremony of Tu Tu Tu (P. Pavāraṇā; Vietnamese-Chinese pronunciation is Bat Hoa La 钵和羅);[8] In Sino-Vietnamese transliteration, Tu means self. be yourself; Four means request, is enlightenment. So Tu Tu means voluntary, self-aware, flamboyant, and personally requests the practitioner of An Cu to enlighten himself on the advantages and disadvantages of "seeing, hearing, and being suspected" in the spirit of harmony. unity and solidarity of individuals and the public. When our strengths are praised and celebrated, we strive to maintain, nurture, and develop ourselves. Or, when one's shortcomings are reminded and taught, then personally record, correct, transform, and gradually eliminate them by repenting to oneself and to the masses. What has been discussed above can be applied and practiced into the Zen life once or twice a month. When monastics apply and practice the Buddhadharma properly, they are not only happy, and your teachers and brothers are also happy. However, in family and couple life, if father, mother, wife, husband, and children can apply and practice well, then each person's self will be happy, family and lineage will be happy. Both inside and outside are happy. Indeed, after the ceremony was completed, a representative in the Seclusion Practitioner Assembly read out the boundaries of the Elder Lam An Ju mentioned the day before of the first day of the Retreat, and said, "Today is the day of the Retreat. release date of Ha; The world school in this Gia Lam An Cu residence was opened. Sedentary practitioners can leave their residence in accordance with the boundaries set by the lower school. Now, I would like to present to the General Assembly gladly will tri. ”[9] When you understand, apply, and practice like that, then one can reap the fruits of true peace and happiness right now and here in the present life. Thanks to the Summer Retreat, each practitioner has one more stage of practice and the merit of practicing the Buddhadharma by cultivating, cultivating, and developing virtue, virtue, and virtue. The energies of practice, love, understanding, sympathy, forgiveness, tolerance, generosity, peace, and happiness of the Sangha all increase. The Buddhas, the Dharma protectors, the good gods, and the Buddhists were all very happy. At this point, we learn more about the word Sangha; The Pali language of the Sangha is Sangha; Sangha means harmony and unity, mindfulness and alertness, stability and relaxation. Sangha means a practice group of 4 or more people. Sangha consists of 2 Large Families: They are monks and they are lay people; They include monks and nuns; The lay community consists of male and female laypeople. According to the Buddha's teaching, during the Summer Retreat, when the monastic community practices, learns, and practices the Dharma, the Lay Sangha also practices, learns, and practices the Dharma, especially upholding the Dharma. Relying on the golden robe of liberation and the peaceful silhouette of the Sangha, in addition to learning, understanding, and practicing the Way, the lay people also develop the mind to protect the Dharma by offering four things: 1. Face, 2. Sleepwear such as blankets, pillows, sleeping bags… 3. Medicines, and 4. Food and drink. After the end of the Summer Retreat, in order to recreate and re-see the traditions and images of the Buddha and the Sangha, the Sangha, monks, i.e., the An Dwelling yogis go for alms around the abode so that the laity have the opportunity to nurture and develop their minds into giving and make offerings of pure wealth and pure objects to the abode and the meditators settle down. When they understand and practice like this, both the Sangha of monastics and the laity walk together on the path of peace, enlightenment, and liberation, and together bring true peace and happiness to themselves and to each other. for others in this world. Thus, at the end of the annual Summer Retreat, the monastic Sangha experiences one more stage of virtue, virtue, and wisdom. Meanwhile, the Lay Community also gains more merit, grace, and wisdom. Both of these Sanghas rely on and support each other like figure and shadow, like water and wave, and together contribute to bringing Buddhism to a glorious future all over the world. While trying to present this article briefly and briefly, the writer cannot avoid omissions, and I hope that the Venerable and Compassionate Virtues will gladly guide you. Finally, we would like to pray for the blessings of the Three Jewels, bless you monastics and laypeople, Dharma protectors and advocates, and Buddhists near and far, immeasurable peace, immeasurable auspiciousness.
